WORKBOOT SATURDAY OCT 17, 2009

Saturday was a beautiful day for a beautiful outreach. Five wonderful people from Alabama drove 7 hours to bring the homeless of Baton Rouge some 375 pairs of workboots and we passed out about 175 pairs. We got to Roselawn about 12:30 and a crowd was waiting. We started with prayer and song (by Hammer & Corina). They were all excited to get boots, chili and socks. It was humbling to watch them trying on the boots and seeing some of them throwing their old shoes & socks away. We went to the levy. Saw some old friends and met a couple of new ones.

The most memorable stop for me was under one of the overpasses. Seeing all the different spots the people have “staked out as their 'home” is heartbreaking, especially the young ones. Met a beautiful blonde-haired blue-eyed 18 yr. old girl who obviously has been living on the street for some time. Please pray for her and all the homeless people of our city.  The day was beautiful and the people were thankful, often asking God to bless us for our kindness. Thank you, Jesus for giving me such an awesome opportunity to serve you!  (Bernie D.)
